CURRENT PROGRAMS of WWW UNITED

1. The Learning Board. This is our main solution to help students throughout the world who lack funds for paper and pencils. We have already produced many of these small, individual blackboards that include a place to attach and store an eraser and chalk. Throughout the year, we have researched and experimented to find this inexpensive, durable solution for students who need writing materials. These modern slates are a very workable product that can make a big difference for more literacy in many parts of the world such as Afghanistan, Angola, and places in The Far East and Latin America.

Currently, members of the San Jacinto Council of Girl Scouts in Texas have begun making them as a service project. This council is composed of about 55,000 girls, and they celebrated their 90th birthday recently with approximately 10,000 girls from several states. They honored us by inviting us to build a booth at this event from which we introduced our Learning Boards to many groups from 4 states.

In addition, a chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, the international honorary teachers’ society, has scheduled times to make these to donate. We are honored to think that teachers have given us their support.

And, we are thrilled when we reflect on the children worldwide who will have the means to learn to write because of our Learning Boards, children who may have been illiterate for life without this help. After all, we posit that it is very difficult to learn to write without something to write upon. We are working with more organizations, and they should be online making these for more students in the near future. We feel confident we will have a program donating basic desks in the future to go along with the Learning Boards.

2. The School Chests Program. A large amount of School Chests, filled with basic school supplies, were donated by us and sent to Afghanistan this past spring. Many people donated funds, and many others donated the actual school supplies for the School Chests. For instance, 4 elementary schools in Texas collected supplies from any families who wished to donate. One very special elementary school collected their donation penny by penny in a wishing well, and from this, they later donated $500.00 to us. Every penny went to buy more school supplies. Children literally are helping children. If the littlest ones can do it, surely the adults can do this as well.

We also worked with many other people to finish the school chests drive, especially one young Senior in high school who has been working as a leading volunteer for a big part of his life. Jonathan Wang is definitely an inspiration to all of us.

Our school chests became part of the shipment sent by The Red Cross. Imagine how happy these kiddoes were with their paper, pencils, crayons, jump ropes, chalk, rulers, and much more. For most, it would have been their first time to use a crayon and many of the other supplies. What a blessed event. In the future, we will be able to record these happy, Eureka moments to share with our donors.

Also, a university alumni association and a college basketball team assisted packing these in special chests while two TV stations recorded the event. It was fantastic seeing all the volunteers working together on the 5 o’clock news in Houston, showing the world we may not be The Ugly American image they often hear about. We have scheduled a bigger event for next spring to send even more school chests to parts of the world where there is great need for these.

3. The Book Recycling Program. Through our newest program, we are doing four things: a) taking in used or new hardback and paperback books for donations, b) sending those acceptable to other cultures for use in their schools, c) exchanging leftover books for a small fee, and d) reselling the others for shipping and expenses. We know that we can recycle that which would often be unused to help those in need. Recycling books is the main way we are doing this at WWW UNITED. This program has proven quite popular very quickly. Let us know if you are interested in this program.

FUTURE PROGRAMS of WWW UNITED

1. The English-as-a-Foreign-Language Program. WWW UNITED is currently researching a program to use overseas for those who want English as a Foreign Language. We are quite excited about our first overseas trip to Vietnam to search for ways we can work with that nation and within that nation.

They are not the first country to demonstrate a desire for more opportunities to learn English. We believe this will become a major initiative for us, and we are working with experts to help us develop a major advance in the numbers of students who can be taught well with fewer resources. What better way to help improve the business exchange around the world? What better way to help people advance their cultural exchange than by giving them a language through which they can speak to another culture?

2. The Cultural Exchange Program. We will soon launch our first cultural exchange program with The Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council. We anticipate this will be a Pen Pals and Essay program to begin, with suitable prizes for best essays and letters.

3. The Distance Learning Program. We are investigating various avenues for accelerating distance learning, knowing that there will not be adequate numbers of teachers for the foreseeable future for many of the children of the world.

Therefore, it seems necessary to WWW UNITED that we find better ways to provide at least one teacher for more children. We believe that some decent teaching is better than no teaching in these cases. Many children already learn much with the most rudimentary of infrastructure and supplies. We believe in time we can find a paradigm shift acceptable to all sides of this equation.

In fact, we are looking for nothing less than a Win-Win-Win for all sides. That is the main reason we are known as the Win-Win-Win Organization. We will look until we find the common ground that gives everyone at least some part of a victory. In addition, when more children are learning, it really gives us all a victory.
